A downloadable game for Linux

You're a soldier of the United World Army, bringing a payload across the sea when you get shot down. You need to survive whilst scavenging for parts to get yourself rescued!

Developed on Ubuntu 15.10 with the experimental Linux build of Unity3D. Developed on Linux for Linux. Do expect bugs and other peculiarities, whether arising from my own mistakes or from bugs within this Unity build (lighting can be problematic).

Developed and tested on an AMD R9 390 with Mesa 11.1 Open Source drivers. Should work with Nvidia Proprietary drivers and Intel Mesa drivers. Unknown if it will work on Catalyst or not. I did not have time during this one-week development to test performance on older hardware. I'm hoping it's not too heavy.

In-game you can access the Pause menu by pressing the Escape key on your keyboard! I forgot to mention this in-game. I'm sorry.

This title was developed in the period of one week (19 October to 26 October 2015) for the first GOL Game Jam! This is also my first game development jam that I have ever been a part of.

Install instructions

I've now uploaded both a 64bit version and a 32bit version of the game! So, you should be able to play it on both architectures just fine. The game is packaged in a .zip, so you should be able to extract it with ease.

Extract the folder anywhere, then run the SurviveTheUnknown.x86_64 executable to start the game! You should only need to double click it to run it.

The game was developed with a focus on 16:9 resolutions only. Whilst it's possible to use 16:10 or 4:3 resolutions, it's not recommended. Please play at 1280x720 or greater resolution for the best experience. I hope you have some fun!

How to build for windows?

INNANEY GAPPU WANNA!!!!!

why no realease for a windows 10

Spooky...

Looks alright, however I can't play on windows because you put it as a .86_64 when it should be just .exe. But other than that it looks fine

Big lighting and shadow problems. Using latest (closed) 4.5.0 NVIDIA 361.42 drivers. AI was pretty stupid. only headshot working??? Mouse work so that the first could be seen pointer, which dragged behind a gun sight. Nice game :)

Controls? Seems like WASD move, and E to pick up? I managed to pick up the AK but not the Flashlight or anything else... Oh jeah and after you exit to the main menu and enter the game again the controls (movement) don't work.

EDIT: Managed to pick both up by picking the flashlight up before picking the gun up. VERY nice sunset :) but the world looks really shit (bland), because the only color is grey :/ otherwise really cool game! And the zombies/enemies could take fewer bullets ;) And at least the jet part near the spawn has no collision box

Thank you for the feedback! I am aware of the bug where you return to the main menu after playing and re-entering doesn't work. This seemed to be a bug in the Unity3D Linux version, as even after trying a new project I experienced the same issue.

Sorry for the bland world! I wanted to fill it with more greenery and interactables, but I ran into issues with baking the Lightmaps and baking the Nav Mesh which cost me too much time.

I should have put more information in the instructions, I definitely missed out putting how the player moves. WASD is correct and E is indeed the pickup key. Seriously, thank you for taking the time to try it and reporting your experience back to me, I appreciate it :)
